  • Pain Between the Shoulder Blades

When was the last time you saw a person walking around with their arms wrapped behind their back?  And you thought to yourself, “man, look at those tight rhomboids!”

STOP ALLOWING YOUR MASSAGE THERAPIST TO DIG THEIR ELBOWS IN BETWEEN YOUR SHOULDER BLADES TO WORK OUT THOSE “TRIGGER POINTS’!!!  It’s not helping, but only contributing to the issue.

Often when clients come to me expressing pain between the shoulder blades, I find they are hunched over with their ears in front of their shoulders.  Their overworked traps, levator, and pecs are rock hard and are overpowering the weaker muscles of the deep neck flexors, lower traps and rhomboids.  This is called Upper Crossed Syndrome, and if it goes untreated or improperly treated, it could continue to cause additional damage to the structure and function of the rest of the body.

Neck and shoulder work has got to be one of my favorite areas to work on my clients!

I find that when we work as a team, I can incorporate Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques to help rebalance the shoulder girdle, coach them to focus on proper postural habits, and encourage them to strengthen the weak and inhibited muscles.

The clients who take responsibility for their wellness journey are excited when, within several sessions, the pain between the shoulder blades begins to melt away.

  • Postural Imbalances of the Pelvis

Pain is an indication that your body wants you to change your postural patterns.

Many times I find that clients have a pelvis that is not balanced.  This imbalance could be the source of not only their low back into hip pain, but also neck into shoulder pain.

It seems as though the client has created a postural pattern over a period of time that creates the tendency for the right ilium to appear anteriorly rotated with the left ilium posteriorly rotated.

I have found several Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques to work well in rebalancing the pelvis, such as squeezing bridge and active quad release.

If you experience low back into hip pain or neck into shoulder pain, I encourage you to reach out to me to discuss if we may be a good fit for working together.

  • History of Sprained Ankles That Haven’t Properly Healed

A client who loves hiking has a history of a broken right calcaneus (heel) and sprained ankle.  She feels pain in the lateral dorsal (top) portion of her foot leading up to the knee and hip, especially when walking down hill and for several days after a hike.

During our session, she actively participated in several of the Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, one of which was Plantar Flexion and Dorsiflexion of the foot while I applied detailed gliding strokes to the Retinacula of the Ankle.  The Retinacula acts as a stirrup to stabilize the foot structure.

A week later, she shared with me one episode of ankle pain while hiking but much improved overall.  We repeated the technique during the session.  Two weeks later, she exclaimed that her foot had never felt so good!

If you suffer from a history of sprained ankles that haven’t properly healed, then contact me so that you can return to your favorite activity free of pain!

  • Life of Abundance

    Life of Abundance

WOW!  What an incredible year!  As I reflect upon 2019, I realize the abundant life that I live, and I am grateful for all of my amazing clients who support me as a small business owner.  THANK YOU!

This past year, I traveled to Houston and to Oklahoma City for in-classroom orthopedic massage training with the industry-known leader Erik Dalton and his lead instructor Paul Kelly.  These men have impressed upon me with their grace and humility in which they teach.  They take the time to help us understand the proper functioning of these dynamic bodies with which we work.  I am grateful for having the opportunity to learn from the best in the industry.

Along the lines of orthopedic massage training, Erik Dalton developed a Master program in his Myoskeletal Alignment Technique, which includes a little over 200 hours of both in-classroom and online training.  I completed the classroom requirements earlier this year, and I completed the online requirements a few weeks back.  Phew!  I DID IT!  Now I wait to receive the certificate in the mail recognizing me as a Master Myoskeletal Therapist!!!  The cool thing about this is that when I search Erik’s website, there are only about 50 of us internationally who have completed this program, and I will be the ONLY one in the Pittsburgh area with this certification!  As you can see, I am super pumped about it.

Should you find yourself ready to eliminate chronic pain from your body, I am here to work with, educate and support you in your journey! Call or text me at 412-760-1776 to discuss how we may be a great fit for working together.
